Top 10 Books of 2013: Reading Books Like a Boss Edition

Choosing just ten books as your best of 2013 is hard! Level of difficult: nearly impossible.  This is a list of books that I read in 2013. They don’t need to have been released in 2013.  I had so much fun looking through my read list and reminiscing.  COMMENT below and tell me what your favorite reads of 2013 were!

The Light in the Wound by Christine Brae
The Light in the Wound by Christine Brae

This book was such an emotionally charged read.  As I read Christine Brae’s debut novel, I went through a huge range of emotions – shock, anger, happiness, and sadness. I went through it all.  Brae’s writing is poetic and deeply touching.  Definitely check this out if you’re a fan of emotional reads like me.

Tangled
Tangled by Emma Chase

Tangled was laugh-out-loud funny and yet incredibly charming.  Drew Evans is one of those book characters that will stay with you.  If you haven’t read this one, you should definitely read it soon.  I loved seeing him fall all over himself as he realizes that he is love — a feeling he has never experienced.

Ashes to AshesAshes to Ashes by Karina Halle

It’s no secret that I LOVE the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle.  She actually released two books from the series this year. I struggled to choose between the two.  Ultimately, I chose to Ashes to Ashes due to the creep factor and the Dex swoon factor.  This series is absolutely wonderful. If you’re hesitant to pick it up because of the scares, don’t be! The love story is incredible.  Dex and Perry are an unforgettable couple!

Extinguish

Extinguish by J.M. Darhower

I read Sempre J.M. Darhower last year and absolutely loved it.  I loved her writing.  When I saw she was working on a paranormal novel, I got really excited. I love a good paranormal romance. I was blown away by Extinguish. It’s not your typical angel storyline.  And it makes you fall in love with the most unlikely character — the devil.  Are you listening now?  Read it. Do it. Trust me.

Succubus Revealed by Richelle Mead

Ever since I finished the Georgina Kincaid series earlier this month, I can’t stop talking about it. I want everyone to read this.  It tells the story of Georgina Kincaid, a succubus and immortal.  She must sleep with men in order to thrive and survive.  In her two thousand years on this earth as an immortal she hasn’t had a romantic relationship. And that’s all she wants — to love and be loved. She meets Seth Mortenson and falls hard.  But her circumstances make it impossible for them to be together. This series brings the feels majorly.  Mead’s storytelling is flawless. I couldn’t stop reading these books.

Nereyda from Mostly YA Book Obsessed are hosting a Georgina Kincaid series read-a-thon March 10 – 28, 2014.  Join us and read at your own pace!  Details to come.

God-Shaped Hole cover

God-Shaped Hole by Tiffanie Debartolo

I had it on my TBR after finishing How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie Debartolo.  But at my friend, Brenna’s (from No BS Book Reviews), I picked this up.  And by the end, I wanted to slap her and hug her at the same time.  Debartolo is a master wordsmith. She knows how to write a sentence that is packed with emotions, yet will cut you deep. It’s hard to explain what this book is about.  In a nutshell, it’s the story of Jacob and Trixie’s relationship and their hopes and dreams.  It’s emotional, you guys. You have been warmed.  But all emotions are completely worth it.

Thief by Tarryn Fisher

Thief by Tarryn Fisher

Thief is the final book in the Love Me with Lies series.  This book was one of the most anticipated books of 2013 for me. It answered so many of the burning questions readers had after the first two books, The Opportunist & Dirty Red. To say Tarryn Fisher is talented is an understatement. Fisher can WRITE.  Caleb and Olivia’s rocky love story was told with such honesty.  This series stands out.  If you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for?.

one tiny lie by K.A. TuckerOne Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker

K.A. Tucker’s Ten Tiny Breath series is a MUST read.  Of the three books that have been released so far, One Tiny Lie is my favorite, though they’re all fantastic.  Like Ten Tiny Breaths (book one), One Tiny Lie tackles some heavy issues. The story follows Livvie, Kacie’s sister, as she goes to college and learns to let loose and let go of her past.  At Princeton, she meets Ashton. He is SO HOT. OMG! I love a brooding hero and Ashton hits the mark.

painted faces

Painted Faces by L.H. Cosway

Like the cover says, this is an unconventional love story.  The main characters’ names are Fred and Viv.  Care to guess which one is the girl and which one is the guy?  You’ll probably get it wrong.  Painted Faces is so different from other stories.  The main male character is a drag queen, but he goes for the ladies.  Their relationship is full of angst and longing.  Gah! Just thinking about it makes me want to reread it!

the fault in our starsThe Fault in Our Stars by John Green

The Fault in Our Stars is a beautifully written story about two teenagers falling in love while dying.  Depressing? Yes.  But there was a glimmer of hope in this story. John Green is a brilliant writer.  I have never cried so hard in my life while reading a book IN MY LIFE.
