“This and That” is a feature meant to showcase books that I think sound similar or have similar themes and would recommend to someone who is a fan of the “this book.” I may not have read the “that” book, but I think fans of the “this” book might like it.
The Why:
If you haven’t heard of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, then you have to have been living under a rock. It was recently made in to a movie and it is one of my favorite young adult paranormal series. Richelle Mead is one of my all-time favorites authors; her storytelling is absolutely wonderful. The heroine, Rose Hathaway, is a high school student at the vampire academy, a school where both humans and vampires attend. Rose is in training to become a guardian to the vampires. But her training was a bit behind when she ran away with her best friend Lissa. Now, that she is back at the school, she’s in special training with a broody, sexy trainer, but their romance is super forbidden.

Rites of Passage by Joy N. Hensley just came out on September 9th. Sam joins the first all-girls class at a prestigious military academy. “She’s expecting push-ups and long runs, rope climbing and mud-crawling.” But what she doesn’t see coming at all are the feelings she has for her…DRILL SERGEANT! Oh yes, forbidden love between the student and the hardass instructor. My friend Steph just read this a couple of days ago and LOVED it! I’m looking forward to diving in!

I know that Vampire Academy is paranormal and it may strike you as odd that I would pair it with a contemporary. However, both of the books have very strong heroines with a forbidden romance. Sounds good, right?
