“This and That” is a feature meant to showcase books that I think sound similar or have similar themes and would recommend to someone who is a fan of the “this book.” I may not have read the “that” book, but I think fans of the “this” book might like it.
The Why:
The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher is the first book in the Love Me With Lies trilogy. It tells the frustratingly beautiful broken love story about a woman who pushes everyone away, even her one true love. It’s a story about the fight for love and fate. If you haven’t read it, you need to. It is an unabashed recommendation. Caleb and Olivia are two book characters that I will truly never forget. I find myself thinking about them from time to time, wondering what they’re doing, if they’re happy. When an author can do that, make the reader care so deeply, she has done her job.

I recently read 53 Letters for My Lover by Leylah Attar and really liked it. While reading it, it evoked some of the same moments of tension and distress that I felt while reading The Opportunist. Troy and Shayda are, in a sense, star-crossed lovers. Shayda is married, but her husband can’t love her the way she needs to be loved. Troy can. Their love story spans several decades, putting the reader through an emotional wringer, through riveting highs and emotional lows. I felt the characters’ emotions and could truly understand their love for one another. It was a beautiful story.
